Building a Necromunda sector piece by piece(2)

Last time out I started this project with a hex building, I continued on but also tried something different with each of the two buildings I was working on next. I always think it’s good to vary things, even if not hugely, just to differentiate and give a bit of uniqueness.

This is at the burnt umber stage as detailed in the steps I shared in the first piece. For this hex tower I went with a colour that I thought would be closer to the original Games Workshop cardboard terrain as a homage. That colour is Army Painter Wolf Grey.

I also wanted to toy around with marking the pieces so that each building had it’s own bulkheads so they could be tied in together. I made a stencil out of card for this and went at it with a large brush. It needs refining as it didn’t work so well on the very non-flat bulkheads.

I won’t bore you with more shots than that as it is fairly similar to what was on show on the last piece. Hopefully it demonstrates enough what this one looks like. The next is far more starkly contrasting.

Vegan Gu is fantastic by the way… But yes, I wanted a building that took a very different turn colour wise. I used a rusty looking red from The Range, the maker of which I cannot recall at this time. I applied the usual steps for this one. Including the added stencilled yellow bars to help break it up a bit. They essentially mark places that the platform might be accessed from, but were also intended to make it a bit more interesting.

It still needs the rust adding, though I am a bit unsure as to whether it’d blend into the red too much. It also needs a wash as the colour needs dialing back a bit more in those recesses.

I’m really pleased with how this project is chugging along at the moment. Especially considering just how long some of these mdf kits, and the unused bulkheads especially, have sat in my pile of shame unused. Seeing this come to life really is helping the creative juices flow for creating what I call, the more narrative pieces for a table.
